Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams fires back after critics questioned his character
The Chicago Bears are patiently awaiting the return of their franchise QB, Caleb Williams.
Williams suffered a hamstring tear during the Bears’ Week 3 loss to the Vikings and, as a result, has missed the prior two games. Before the injury, Williams was off to a very fast start, even getting some early MVP chatter.
Now, his focus will be getting healthy over the next few weeks before the meat of the schedule arrives. It appears Williams will return this Sunday when the Bears take on the Atlanta Falcons. He was a full participant in practice again today and spoke to the media for the first time in weeks.
He addressed the criticisms he faced following his injury, as it appeared to be much worse than it actually was. Many NFL ‘talking heads’ on social media questioned Williams’ character. Sadly, this isn’t new for Caleb, as he’s been attacked since he entered the league in 2024.
“My character’s been attacked for a while. It’s just another motivating factor when I get out there and get going again.” Williams said. “Not being able to be out there was frustrating. That was more of the tears or whatever that was. The other half of it was everybody making jokes and all that, but that doesn’t bother me.”
Williams continued, saying he’s always going to show emotion because he cares. And he does. The fact that he even needs to defend himself like this is pretty appalling, and points to the sad state of sports media at times. The one way to shut up those critics? Win.
When he eventually does return, the hope is that he returns to his impressive play that we saw the first two weeks.
Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams is on track to return this weekend

The Chicago Bears sit at 3-2, and a gauntlet of a schedule awaits them in the latter part of the season.
After they play the Falcons on Sunday, they’ll have a short week before they host the defending AFC champion New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. A massive two-game stretch that could determine how this season turns out.
Caleb Williams’ return will provide a massive spark to an offense that needs it. Case Keenum held it down during the Eagles game, but backup Tyson Bagent looked overwhelmed in the loss to Green Bay on Sunday. It’s a lot to ask for a backup QB to win a rivalry game on the road, but they didn’t just lose, they got stomped.
Williams being back will help guys like Rome Odunze and Colston Loveland get going, as both have gotten off to rough starts.
Defensively, the Bears will have their work cut out for them. Defensive end Montez Sweat was suspended and will miss the next two games. In the secondary, Tyrique Stevenson remains injured, and Kyler Gordon has yet to return. What was once a very promising start has turned concerning in a matter of just a few weeks.
