Chicago Bears stars volunteered for field goal duty after early-season struggles
The Chicago Bears are coming off an impressive Monday Night victory, which propelled them to a 2-1 record to start the season.
They beat the Philadelphia Eagles without QB Caleb Williams, as third-string Case Keenum put on a show. He led the Bears to an unexpected victory, and the defense also played their part with their best showing thus far.
Clearly, head coach Ben Johnson has built this winning culture from the ground up. The standard in Chicago is much different than it has been in years past, and it shows after victories like that. Johnson is here to stay.
There have been many examples of the great foundation he has put into place. Today, Adam Hoge posted a story on X that involved some Bears veterans who volunteered to help on special teams. This comes in the wake of the struggles they had in the Week 2 loss against the Vikings.
#Bears STC Richard Hightower said Joe Thuney, Dayo Odeyingbo and Montez Sweat all wanted to help with the field goal unit after the problems the first two weeks of the season.
Thuney stepped in on the wing, while Garrett Bradbury filled in for Braxton Jones after Jones got hurt…

Hearing that guys like Joe Thuney, Dayo Odeyingbo, and Montez Sweat volunteered is truly awesome. It’s also vindication of what we’ve been saying since Ben Johnson was hired – the culture has changed in Chicago.
Now you could make the argument that these guys shouldn’t be taking special teams snaps. They’re all too important in their primary roles, and the risk of injury is there.
However, when you hear stories like this, it’s a great sign. The players are buying into the program that Johnson has instilled.
Ben Johnson was a home run hire by the Chicago Bears, and they should be praised for it

With all the scrutiny the Chicago Bears organization has faced, we have to bow our heads when it comes to the Ben Johnson hiring.
The entire organization has changed since his arrival. He’s brought a winning mentality to the locker room, developed players, and has proved time and time again that he will take risks.
And the fact that Chicago stole him from Detroit makes it even sweeter. The Lions offense has continued to produce since Johnson’s departure, but you can tell he was the mastermind during his time there. Getting him from a division rival was a big-time move by Ryan Poles and the entire organization.
Before Johnson came, the team was in a tough spot. The quarterback position had been a revolving door for years; the fans were losing interest, and defensively, they were a joke.
You can tell that he’s made an impact on everyone involved with the team and will continue to do so.
