Kevin Byard believes in Chicago Bears’ secondary vision

Chicago Bears Dennis Allen

After two years, the Chicago Bears decided to move on from safety Kevin Byard. However, he has been paying close attention to what the franchise is building.

Now a member of the New England Patriots, Byard got to see the Bears up close and personal again in Week 7. His side did come up short 30-24, but the safety got a good look at what Chicago is bringing to the table in 2026.

In terms of Bears safeties, Byard wasn’t able to compete against Coby Bryant, who is still battling a knee injury. But rookie Dillon Thieneman still caught his attention with a team-leading eight tackles and half a sack.

Byard is now on the outside looking in when it comes to the Bears organization. But the glimpse of what he can view has impressed the safety.

Kevin Byard still believes in Chicago Bears

While the personnel might’ve changed, the ring leader hasn’t. And as long as defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is calling the shots, Byard believes in Chicago’s ability to make noise on defense, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

“Once they signed Coby, I had to pivot. No complaints or ill will toward the organization,” Byard said. “I loved my time in Chicago. Maybe the timelines didn’t match up. I think 31 (Thieneman) is a hell of a player. Under Dennis, I think he’s going to have a really good career.”

When Bryant makes his return, the Bears will see their ultimate safety vision come into frame. There are plenty of questions surrounding the state of Chicago’s cornerback room. But the Bears built out their secondary over the offseason with the safety tandem in mind.

Byard won’t have an up close view for Bryant’s return from injury or Thieneman’s further acclimation to the NFL. But Chicago’s former safety still has his finger on the pulse of what’s brewing in the Windy City.
