Chicago Bears reportedly in bidding war with NFC North rival for a defensive back

Riq Woolen Bears

The Chicago Bears are officially in their Super Bowl window. With the trade deadline incoming, the Bears have already been very aggressive in a good way.

General manager Ryan Poles gave up two first-round draft picks for All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. As we all know, that trade is already paying off in a major way.

With the Bears’ pass rush now upgraded, it’s obvious the team must look in the market to upgrade their weak secondary. And according to a new report, they are indeed looking at upgrading at the cornerback position.

However, a NFC North rival may just be in a bidding war with them.

The Chicago Bears are reportedly in deep trade talks with the Philadelphia Eagles for Riq Woolen

According to Eagles reporter Thomas R. Peterson, the Bears may not be done looking for more help.

Peterson reported on X, that the Bears are in deep competition with rival the Detroit Lions to acquire Eagles defensive back Riq Woolen.

With the Eagles season likely being a lost cause, there is a very good chance they will be looking to retool and move on to the 2027 season.

Woolen is a solid veteran cornerback and would be a major upgrade for the Bears. Despite the veteran corner having a down year, he would still be a huge boost over the struggling defensive backs Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson.

The Bears must make a move at cornerback regardless

If the Bears end up getting outbid by then Lions, Ryan Poles must act quick and look into another corner right away.

The team could likely give up a day 3 pick for 2027 and or 2028 in order to get a decent upgrade at the position.

Johnson and Stevenson have been too inconsistent this season, and it’s time for Chicago to get an upgrade right away.

With how special this 2026 is becoming, the Bears must keep their foot on the gas and stay aggressive in order to improve their defense even more.
