Liberty lost: the Connecticut situation

Libertas Coalition and various Homeschoolers groups have shared this unwelcome piece of news with us:

“Connecticut has passed the most restrictive homeschool law in the country, and families in every state should understand what’s in it. Starting in 2027, parents who want to withdraw their child from public school to homeschool must pass a background check and wait 14 days before the withdrawal is granted. Every withdrawal will also trigger an automatic report to the Department of Children and Families, which means every new homeschooling family begins with an open investigation from the state’s child welfare agency. Until now, Connecticut required no registration and no assessment from homeschooling families. The state went from one of the freest in the country to the most hostile in a single legislative session.”

We don’t know yet what the impact will be on those families who just plain do not ever put their children into a government-run, tax-funded school to begin with. No doubt, they are also getting jerked around. The legislature and executive branch of Connecticut must be so pleased with themselves.

After all, “everyone knows” that the liberties, peace, well-being, and prosperity of the people of the State are dangerously threatened by homeschoolers and those who abuse their children by homeschooling them.

We at TPOL have a tenuous connection to the Constitution (or Nutmeg) State, as we work with an evangelism organization led by a veteran who lives in the State. Several of TPOL’s families homeschool their children and have for years. So we can better appreciate the consternation faced.

After all, homeschooling is so clearly linked directly to the way children are abused even more than just being denied opportunities for “socialization” and contact with children their own age. And who knows what might show up in the background check?

The educracy in Connecticut is certainly celebrating this victory. Fearful of being investigated and exposed for maltreating their children, many parents will continue to surrender their children for 4-10 hours a day (holidays and weekends and “in-service” days excepted) to the government-ruined, theft-funded schools. Politicians can also be assured that more and more children, with state-provided education, will prove both gullible and able to be manipulated (especially when it comes to casting votes).

And of course, it ensures steady work (well-paid, of course) for all those child-protection bureaucrats, and the cops which will need to accompany them in their inspection visits. And there is so little for the cops and educrats to do otherwise in the loving, peaceful, and above all progressive Constitution State. The great quality of GRTF schools will also continue to provide a steady supply of new welfare clients to keep those bureaucrats employed.

And of course, the local stampmaking companies will have a brief boom in sales, making all those “cancelled” stamps.

Why, it is a win-win-win situation. For everyone but the children and their parents. What could be better?
