Trump Walks Back on Deal - IDF to 'Flatten Beirut' – w/Colonel Douglas Macgregor (Video)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

In this 27 May 2026 published video, host Mario Nawfal talks with Colonel Douglas Macgregor on the war in Iran.

The discussion centers around two major geopolitical flashpoints: President Trump’s high-stakes, erratic negotiations with Iran, and a collapse of the ceasefire in Lebanon as Israeli leadership threatens catastrophic escalation in Beirut.

A fragile, weeks-long ceasefire in the Gulf and discussions over a framework to permanently reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz have severely degraded:

Iranian state media publicized a purported draft peace agreement involving the release of $20 billion in frozen funds and nuclear concessions. The White House swiftly rejected this report as a “complete fabrication”, with President Trump asserting that the U.S. is in “no rush” and that any final pact must ensure Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon.

The diplomatic friction follows recent U.S. military “self-defense” strikes hitting Iranian missile sites and mine-laying fast boats. Iran decried these strikes as a sign of American “bad faith,” while U.S. Central Command insists it is acting with “restraint” to protect its forces.  Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed the Cabinet that while Trump prefers a diplomatic resolution, the administration has “other options” ready if mediated talks fall apart entirely.

Far-right ministers within Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition—including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir—have publicly demanded a return to intense, unrestricted warfare. Smotrich explicitly advocated that for every Hezbollah drone strike, 10 buildings in Beirut should be flattened.

Despite an active, nominal ceasefire, Israel launched over 100 aerial strikes into Lebanon over a 48-hour window. This escalation is fueled by intense domestic pressure to permanently push Hezbollah beyond the Litani River so displaced civilians in northern Israel can return home.

Macgregor warns that all 11 major U.S. forward bases in the Persian Gulf are effectively “target arrays” and “unusable,” claiming Iran has utilized Russian and Chinese satellite tracking to easily map U.S. flight patterns. He highlights that the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is draining rapidly toward a critical threshold. He argues that a full resumption of hostilities would cause a decade of catastrophic damage to the global energy complex. Macgregor asserts that the U.S. lacks a coherent “Plan B” if Iran refuses to collapse, and argues that Netanyahu is intentionally stoking regional conflict to ensure the U.S. cannot militarily disengage.

If Trump wants a comprehensive covenant of many in the Mideast, he will have to get Israel to accept it. It’s very unlikely Israel would accept a plan that imposes any limitations on it. At a minimum, Trump will have to allow Israel to vanquish Lebanon and deal with Iran. Iran can follow through on threats to destroy desalinization plants and remaining energy infrastructure throughout the whole region. That is likely to turn all the other Mideast nations against any action to provoke Iran. This creates an impasse between Trump wanting the covenant with many which requires Israel’s appeasement, that directly conflicts with the best interests of all other parties.

If Trump decides to seriously pursue the covenant with many despite the impasse, he will have to clear the board and shake things up. Perhaps he will escalate with Iran, maybe after a false flag, in order to push Iran into fulfilling it’s threats and expending it’s most significant ammo. If Iran does destroy desalinization plants and remaining energy infrastructure, Trump may respond with tactical nukes in an effort to finish Iran and affect regime change. The affected nations will not be happy, but vengeance will have been poured out on a defeated Iran. At that point, the conflicts which prevented the covenant with many will be mostly resolved outside of some lingering resentments. Massive pledges to help rebuild infrastructure across a devastated Mideast may overcome the resentments.

That may be the plan, but that doesn’t mean it will happen that way.
