Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White

Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White has been feeling under the weather over the past few days. It wasn’t much different on Tuesday as the Fever took on the Toronto Tempo in a home game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

White was still nursing a noticeable cold, which affected her voice during her pregame press conference. So much so that one reporter had to ask the veteran coach about her current health condition.

Yes, I’m okay,” she said, smiling. “I’m better than I was yesterday.

It’s the best thing, right? Better today than we were yesterday. It’s all we can try to do.”

Fever coach Stephanie White turns to assistants, players amid sickness

White isn’t dealing with anything serious. In fact, she’s been healthy enough to coach her team during practice over the past few days. She was also her usual fiery self as the Fever defeated the Tempo on Tuesday night, 113-91.

White, however, got a lot of help from her coaching staff. When asked pregame about saving her voice, the former WNBA Coach of the Year pointed to her assistants.

“That’s why we have assistant coaches, right?” she said. “We’re all pretty much aligned.”

White also said that the way her team has been a cohesive unit of late has also helped in keeping her in-game screaming bouts to a minimum.

“You know what I like the most about our team over the last few games is that when we come into a huddle, they’re talking to each other,” White continued. “They’re problem-solving, and they’re saying some of the same things that we’re bringing in.

“So, there’s some awareness there. There’s an ownership by our team there, and it helps me save my voice a little bit.”

Kelsey Mitchell led the way for the Fever on Tuesday, scoring a game-high 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Cailtin Clark dropped another double-double with 21 points and 14 assists.

Aliyah Boston chipped in with 18 points, while Sophie Cunningham kept her foot on the gas with a season-high 24 points on six three-pointers.

This marked the Fever’s fourth straight win. They improved to 9-5 on the season and are currently third in the Eastern Conference.
