Sophie Cunningham spills the beans on Indiana Fever’s urgent move

WNBA: Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham

Sophie Cunningham revealed on Tuesday that the Indiana Fever held an urgent team meeting amid their two-game losing skid.

The Fever have lost back-to-back games, including a highly disappointing 100-84 blowout defeat against the Portland Fire on Saturday. Cunningham said the team held a closed-door meeting on Monday that lasted nearly two hours. The good news is that, according to the veteran, she believes they are all now on the same page.

Cunningham spilled the beans on what was discussed during the meeting.

Just what everyone’s kind of feeling, where we need to be, what our identity is,” she told reporters during her media availability session on Tuesday.Offensively, where we’re struggling. Defensively, where is the breakdown?

“… We peeled back all the layers. And so I think everyone’s on a good page right now, and we’re ready to work.”

Sophie Cunningham reveals Indiana Fever’s team meeting

This was the first time the media had heard about the team meeting. Naturally, they had more questions for Cunningham.

The veteran guard did not provide the full details of their discussions, though. Cunningham instead reiterated that “everyone’s refreshed and ready to get going.”

Cunningham also highlighted the silver lining of her team’s current slump.

“I mean, no one wants to have these meetings, but every team has them,” she continued. “Everyone has trials. Everyone has shortcomings.

“I’m just thankful ours is at the beginning of the season and not during, you know, September or October.”

Cunningham concluded by expressing her disappointment with her team’s 16-point loss to Portland.

“It’s just not acceptable. We’re too good to be playing like that,” stated the 29-year-old.

Cunningham clearly wants to move on as soon as possible. The good news for the Fever is that they will have an opportunity to do just that on Thursday. They are set to face Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream to open their Commissioner’s Cup title defense.
