Chicago White Sox land catcher Joey Bart just ahead of MLB trade deadline
The Chicago White Sox approached the Major League Baseball’s trade deadline with three goals in mind. First they wanted to add a starting pitcher. They accomplished this by acquiring three-time All-Star Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners. They also got reliever Huascar Brazoban from the New York Mets.
Additionally, Chicago wanted to get some quality outfield depth. This they accomplished by trading for outfielder Brenton Doyle from the Colorado Rockies.
All that was left was finding a catcher, and this they did in a last-minute deal with Atlanta Braves.
The Chicago White Sox have traded for catcher Joey Bart
In the final minutes before the MLB trade deadline, it was reported that the White Sox have added catcher Joey Bart, whom they have acquired from the Atlanta Braves:

Chicago is sending Duncan Davitt to Atlanta. Davitt, a relief pitcher, was recently recalled from Triple-A following the Castillo trade.
Bart fills a dire need for the White Sox, who have been struggling to find consistent offense at the catcher position all season long. Kyle Teel missed the first few months of the season, and then struggled at the plate before going on the injured list again.
Edgar Quero has not been the answer.
Hopefully, Bart will have more success with the White Sox than he has throughout the majority of his career. This season, he is hitting just .226/.303/.477 with four home runs and 13 RBI.
This is actually the second time Bart has been traded this season. The Pittsburgh Pirates traded him to Atlanta back on June 18. His numbers with Atlanta are even worse (.188/.316/.375).
A former second overall pick by the San Francisco Giants, Bart has all the potential in the world. Hopefully Chicago can help him realize it.
