Chicago Bears safety Coby Bryant leaves practice with injury
The Chicago Bears needed to make some serious and drastic changes on their roster this off-season. Even though they went 11-6 and won the NFC North, the salary cap situation Chicago found itself in made it impossible for them to retain many of their key players. This was especially true on the defensive side of the ball.
Specifically, the Bears had to revamp their entire safety room. In an effort to do this, this signed Super Bowl Champion Coby Bryant in free agency and selected Dillon Thieneman with their first round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Now, they need to get their new safety duo to the start of the year healthy.
Chicago Bears safety Coby Bryant leaves practice with an injury

Last year, Chicago’s safeties helped the defensive unit lead the NFL in interceptions. The hope, of course, is that Bryant will help them do it again in 2026. First, he has to get to the regular season unscathed.
On Monday, he left practice with an injury:
Coby Bryant got hurt during 1 on 1s and was taken inside. Bears are beginning another team period and open in their base defense with Cam Lewis at safety. Without Bryant and Elijah Hicks (PUP), Bears are thin at safety.

Obviously, this is less than ideal. Bryant’s injury just highlights the fact that Chicago is thin at the safety position, an area in which was a strength just a year ago.
Fortunately, Rome Oduzne says that the veteran safety will be fine:
Bears WR Rome Odunze just told @heykayadams that S Coby Bryant “should be fine” after suffering an injury in Monday’s practice

Obviously, Odunze’s comments are not an official announcement. However, it is a pretty good indication that the Bears avoided disaster.
