Prospect White Sox parted with at 2026 trade deadline rapidly adds to home run total in first week with new organization
A week ago, the Chicago White Sox were quite active in the trade department before the August 3 trade deadline. One of the deals they struck was with the Seattle Mariners, bringing in much needed starting pitching help by adding veteran Luis Castillo. However, he was quite costly, having to part ways with MLB reliever Seranthony Dominguez, catching prospect Boston Smith, and outfielder Nolan Jones in the process.
Among the players involved in the deal, Smith was one of the more intriguing names, having put together a breakout campaign. The 23-year-old was acquired from the Washington Nationals in March as part of the Curtis Mead trade and had only been selected in the sixth round of the 2025 MLB Draft. That made 2026 his first season of professional baseball, but at the plate he is making quite the name for himself.

Before the trade, Smith had already launched 22 home runs across Low-A, High-A and Double-A. Eight of those came during his brief 23-game stint at the Double-A level with Chicago. Since joining Seattle’s Double-A affiliate, however, his power has gone to another level, as he added five home runs in his first week alone to push his season total to 27.

During Smith’s incredible week, he homered in three consecutive games before putting together a multi-home run performance on Sunday, Aug. 9. His dominant stretch was enough to earn him Texas League Player of the Week honors, capping off an impressive first week with Seattle’s Double-A affiliate.
For a player in his first professional season, Smith’s rapid rise has been remarkable. The Mariners are now getting a firsthand look at the power that made him such an intriguing prospect, while Chicago has to watch from afar as one of the players it moved at the deadline continues to make a name for himself.
