White Sox activating Kyle Teel may have come at the perfect time
Kyle Teel is back with the Chicago White Sox once again. The 24-year-old has endured a difficult stretch of injuries this season, beginning with a hamstring injury during the World Baseball Classic, followed by a knee injury while on a rehab assignment and, most recently, an ankle sprain at the end of July.
Now, as of September 4, Teel has returned to the big leagues. The White Sox opted against carrying three catchers and instead optioned Drew Romo to the minor leagues, clearing a spot for Teel to rejoin the club.
For Chicago, Teel’s return provides more than just the optimism of getting production from behind the plate. It also comes at a time when several key offensive players are in a slump. For instance, Munetaka Murakami is hitting for just a .133 batting average over his last 27 games with 44 strikeouts while Colson Montgomery has just five home runs since July 31.
The result has been Chicago ranking 16th in total runs scored over the last two weeks. Additionally, the American League Central + No.2 seed playoff race has become more closely contested. Perhaps Teel’s return can provide the spark the White Sox need to get the lineup going and get the Sox back on track.

While Murakami and Montgomery are going through the dog days of summer, Teel has looked sharp at the plate throughout his rehab assignment. Across six games, he recorded a hit in all but one contest, including a three-hit performance and a home run.
With that kind of production, Teel should be able to shake off any rust quickly and make a positive impact on the club right away, which is something the White Sox desperately need as they look for a spark.
