Chicago Bears find pass rush help in early 2027 NFL mock draft

Ryan Poles, Chicago Bears

Until the end of the 2026 NFL campaign, the Chicago Bears are solely focused on the present and making the playoffs. But with the college football season happening simultaneously, the Bears are getting a good look at plenty of potential 2027 NFL Draft targets.

When the actual draft rolls around, Chicago’s needs may look a lot different. Perhaps they suffer a crucial injury, or make a big splash in the trade or free agent market. It’s hard to predict exactly what the Bears will look like in 2027.

But in wouldn’t be surprising to see the franchise target another weapon in their pass rush. Getting to the quarterback hasn’t been as big of a problem as expected early in the season, as Chicago’s 10 sacks rank sixth-highest in the NFL. Still, Montez Sweat, Austin Booker and Dayo Odeyingbo are set to be free agents after 2027. The Bears could add some meaningful depth in the short-term and a player to build around moving forward.

There are plenty of potent pass rushers in the 2027 class. Early NFL mock drafts have Chicago’s eyes on them.

Chicago Bears land pass rush help

Chicago Bears Will Heldt
Clemson defensive end Will Heldt (13) celebrates after sacking University of North Carolina quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. (9) during the third quarter at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, S.C. Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Of course, the draft order won’t be set until after the season. But if the Bears keep winning, they’ll be picking towards the bottom of the first round. That doesn’t mean there isn’t talent available.

At No. 25 in Nick Baumgardner of the Athletic’s early 2027 mock draft, Chicago lands Clemson edge rusher Will Heldt. The senior has had no issue getting into the opposing backfield early in 2026.

“Heldt (6-7, 260) has a near-ideal build for a true three-down edge,” Baumgardner wrote. “He plays with active hands and burst off the ball, and he has picked up 19 pressures and four sacks this season, with a 15.4 percent win rate.”

In his final year with Purdue in 2024, Heldt registered 10 tackles for a loss and five sacks. He stepped it up in his Clemson debut last season, putting up career-highs with 15.5 TFLs and 7.5 sacks. Heldt earned Third-team All-ACC honors for his effort.

With 6.5 TFLs and four sacks through his first five games in 2026, the senior has continued making a strong impression. If pass rush remains a need in 2027, he’s a name Bears fans should be well aware of leading into the draft.
