Chicago Bulls: Tiago Splitter is already proving why he was a good head coaching hire
We are just a few days away from the start of the 2026-27 NBA season.
Chicago Bulls finally have something to be excited about after this past offseason. A new-look front office, coaching staff, and roster have built anticipation across the fanbase. First-year head coach Tiago Splitter was hired as head coach this summer, as he was one of the hottest names on the market during this past cycle.
Splitter is a former NBA champion center with the San Antonio Spurs and is coming off an impressive season. He was the interim head coach for the Portland Trail Blazers and subsequently led them to the playoffs. It was a shock to many that Splitter wasn’t retained by Portland, but if you know anything about their new owner, it begins to make sense.
The Chicago Bulls X page posted a cool clip yesterday, showcasing Splitter’s approach to coaching. He quizzed the players on their matchups in what was an awesome clip.

What a massive change from what fans are used to.
The Bulls’ roster is one that many have questioned this offseason. It has a nice balance of veterans, such as Norman Powell and Buddy Hield. It also has plenty of youth, and maybe a few All-Stars if Splitter can unlock their potential.
Tiago Splitter has been a home run hire for the Chicago Bulls (so far)
Is it realistic for Bulls fans to expect a winning season? Probably not.
The Eastern Conference is the toughest it’s been in years, and Chicago’s roster is still developing. This year will be a good chance for Caleb Wilson and Matas Buzelis to get accustomed to each other, as well as improve on their own personal game. Point guard Josh Giddey will also need to take a big step and really lead this offense, as some believe he’s peaked.
If coach Splitter can get the most out of this group, the playoffs may be achievable. We all saw what he did with a limited Portland group last year in a tougher conference. The players seem to have bought in, which is a great sign.
“He’s really detailed,” said rookie Caleb Wilson. “He knows what he wants you to do and he’s pretty serious. Most coaches, you have coaches that are joking around and stuff like that. Tiago’s pretty serious, and he knows what he wants. I’d rather have someone serious and straightforward with me, so I know what I can do better.”
Over the past couple of years, Chicago Bulls basketball hasn’t been a fun watch. Regardless of how this season turns out, it’ll most likely be a better product than we’ve been watching lately.
