It makes me laugh when people describe the Tsunamis we have had as massive or huge. There is incontrovertible evidence of 1000 metre high Tsunamis in the Meditteranean and 520 metre high Tsunamis in the Americas.
The Japanese Tsunami was 40.5 metres at its peak, about one thirty fifth of the historical tsunami height range. The Indonesian tsunami, which killed far more people was even smaller at 30 metres. Neither of these could be described as huge, humoungous or massive on the scale of what is possible. Scientists have calculated shore waves from a medium sized meteorite impact at sea (similar to that which formed the Burckle event crater in the Indian Ocean) could reach as high as 1500 Metres.
