Update Timeline on Breece Hall – NY Jets Injury Report
New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn provided several injury updates following Tuesday’s Jets training camp practice. The biggest news involved Breece Hall and Mykal Walker, who will both miss two to three weeks but are expected to be ready for the regular season.
“Breece with the groin, Mykal with the calf. Both of those guys will be out two-to-three weeks, so those guys will be ready for the regular season, looking forward to getting those guys back” Glenn said.
Breece Hall
Hall will be sidelined with a groin injury, but the Jets appear to have avoided a long-term issue. Asked about the news, Glenn said:
“Not just Breece, but any of our guys that have injuries that we know is not going to be a long-term injury, but obviously for that player, knowing how important he is for what we’re doing, it was really exciting to hear it.”
Mykal Walker
Walker will also miss approximately two to three weeks with a calf injury. Like Hall, Glenn expects Walker to be available when the Jets begin the regular season.
Kenyon Sadiq
Sadiq continues to make progress toward returning to practice.
“I would say so,” Glenn said when asked if Sadiq was getting closer. “I would say him and Ponds, they’re getting closer, and the goal has always been getting those guys ready for Week One.”
Despite the rookie missing valuable practice time, Glenn believes Sadiq has remained engaged mentally.
“He’s in walkthrough, he’s in the meetings. So, even though he’s getting mental reps, where I understand he has to get those live reps, he’s a very intelligent man.”
Glenn added:
“We don’t think he’s going to miss a beat when it’s time for him to get out on the field with us.”
D’Angelo Ponds
The Jets are also targeting Week 1 for Ponds.
Glenn said the timeline hasn’t changed and that Ponds has remained involved while unable to practice.
“We targeted that Week One for him from the very beginning, and hopefully he’ll be in practice before that to make sure that we get as many reps with that player as we can.”
Glenn said Ponds has continued attending meetings and preparing for multiple roles in the secondary.
“He’s doing a really good job of understanding exactly what their responsibilities are from a nickel and outside corner perspective, and we’re looking forward to getting him back.”
Geno Smith
The Jets continue to manage Geno Smith’s workload, and Glenn hasn’t decided whether Smith will play in the next preseason game.
“Every day, it’s a management plan for that player,” Glenn said. “We want to make sure that we get our guys ready for Week One.”
Glenn said Smith’s availability will depend on how he feels and where the Jets believe he is in his progression.
“If it’s playing in this game because he feels up to it and he’s ready to go and he wants to be with the other guys, let’s go. If he’s not playing because we want to continue to be cautious in that situation, we’ll do that.”
Joseph Ossai and T’Vondre Sweat
Ossai and Sweat are back on the practice field, but both remain on managed workloads.
Asked whether the two players are still on a pitch count, Glenn confirmed that they are.
“We have a management plan for those guys. Man, they just got back. So, it wouldn’t be wise for us to just throw them out there and just let them go.”
Glenn said the Jets are gradually increasing the workload for the entire team as they prepare players for regular-season game conditions.
For Ossai and Sweat, the important development is that both are back practicing while the Jets continue to manage their reps.
