Caitlin Clark gets bad news amid FIBA World Cup
Caitlin Clark and Team USA are enjoying a lot of success at this year’s FIBA World Cup. They swept the group phase with a 3-0 record and dominated Hungary in the quarterfinals to book their semifinals berth. The Indiana Fever superstar has been a key piece of the team, showcasing her elite skill set, particularly her playmaking.
Clark started the tournament with a historic performance against China. She produced 14 points and 11 assists, recording the most dimes by a USA player at the World Cup in 28 years. However, the 24-year-old failed to follow it up with another strong outing. She struggled mightily versus Italy and finished with just one point on 0-for-6 shooting.
The three-time WNBA All-Star has since bounced back with back-to-back solid games. She contributed nine points and seven rebounds over Czechia and 10 points and nine rebounds in the 108-56 quarterfinals win.

Caitlin Clark drops one spot in FIBA World Cup MVP ladder
FIBA released its ladder for MVP of the tournament. However, Clark’s ranking dropped in the top 10 by one spot after previously being listed at No. 4. France’s Gabby Williams is now the favorite to win the honor, followed by Team USA’s Breanna Stewart. Williams’ teammate, Marine Johannes is third, while Germany’s Leonie Fiebich is fourth.

Rounding out the top 10 are Spain’s Iyana Martin, Germany’s Frieda Buhner, USA’s Paige Bueckers, Spain’s Awa Fam and USA’s Angel Reese. The winner will be announced on Sunday, which is the last day of the tournament.
However, it’s still up for grabs, and a strong performance by Clark or the other top favorites could change the rankings instantly. Team USA is the heavy favorites to advance to the finals and win its fifth straight world championship. Fans know Clark for playing at her best in big games. If she delivers in the semis, and potentially in the finals, it won’t be surprising to see her taking home the MVP trophy.
