Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham (8) reacts while warming up prior to a game against the Chicago Sky

Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever’s season ended not the way they wanted to. The were eliminated in the first round by Las Vegas Aces, and Makayla Timpson posted a parting message for the campaign on Instagram. The veteran guard dropped a two-word reaction to it.

Indiana extended the series to a winner-take-all Game 3 on Oct. 1. However, the defending champions showed a lot of poise late in the matchup to win 94-83 and advance to the next round. Cunningham finished with five points and two rebounds, with Kelsey Mitchell leading the way with 23 points on 7-of-23 shooting. Aliyah Boston backed her with 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, while Caitlin Clark added 18 points on 6-of-18 attempts.

Cunningham experienced an up-and-down season. She was moved to the bench by head coach Stephanie White to give the reserves more offensive firepower. The 30-year-old struggled to consistently contribute, although she had some huge games.

Indiana Fever: Sophie Cunningham comments on Makayla Timpson’s post

Timpson uploaded a carousel of photos featuring her from different moments this season. She also added a short but meaningful caption.

“Year 2. growth, consistency, & joy ðŸ™ðŸ½❤,” Timpson wrote.

“my baebayyyyyy,” Cunningham commented.

Timpson became a regular part of the starting five. She showed off her reliability on offense by being the recipient of passes near the basket, and also shined on defense. The second-year forward was one of the team’s bright spots, giving fans more reason to be excited about the future.

Meanwhile, Cunningham will enter free agency. She will likely receive interest from some teams around the league for her experience and on-court tenacity. However, she could also receive another short-term deal from the Fever depending on their other offseason moves. Analysts expect the front office to add a few key pieces to place Clark, Timpson and Co. in the best position to win a title.
