Former Fever player facing backlash over apparent Sophie Cunningham dig

Sophie Cunningham is no stranger to being part of a lot of headlines. She has often been talked about for her pregame outfits, on-court performances and controversial statements. Former Indiana Fever player Sydney Colson appeared to take a shot at the veteran guard recently.

The Las Vegas Aces eliminated the Fever in the first round. Cunningham and Co. pushed the series to a winner-take-all Game 3 on Oct. 1 but lost 94-83. They entered the playoffs as the No. 6-seeded team, finishing the regular season with a 28-16 record.

The 30-year-old began the campaign as part of the starting unit. However, she was moved to the bench to provide a spark when the starters rest. Cunningham had an up-and-down year, struggling to consistently contribute to her team.

Colson shared her take about recent controversies surrounding the WNBA. She discussed comments about transgender athletes and appeared to have taken at dig at Cunningham.

“If you never speak up about a damn thing when you know it’s impacting the people that you claim to love, care about, we’re fighting together as a team, sister, blah, blah, blah, blah and you don’t speak up when things affect them, they don’t respect you,” Colson said. “They are just trying to make it. Let me just tell you now, for real. For the white players in the league, when you don’t say s***, and even worse, when you say things that are harmful, you talking about the trans s***, nobody respects you. Shut the f*** up.”

Fans blasted her Colson in the comments section.

“Coming from someone who averaged 2.8 PPG over her entire career of 11 seasons. Unironically, Sophie has had a much better career than her so far! ,” a user commented.

“Shidddd tell that to her fans that bought her shoes and jersey lol miss fragile,” one reaction read.

“Btw who is Sydney Colson?” a fan said.

“Ex player Colson. She is the expert with her 3 point avg. go sit down ,” posted another.

“Yup, it’s the “agree with us or we come for you” crowd. Disgusting,” another fan wrote.

“Hey Sidney, nobody gives af what you say either. Take your own advice, stfu,” one comment read.

Colson played for the Fever last season but her suffered a non-contact ACL injury in August 2025. She missed the rest of the campaign and remained unsigned by a WNBA team this year.
