Bears QB Caleb Williams makes admission on Coby Bryant’s injury
Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears witnessed Coby Bryant suffer a knee injury during training camp. It’s a huge blow to the team, particularly its defense, as the safety was set to play a significant role. He has since undergone surgery and will be out for the next 4-6 months.
Chicago signed Bryant to a three-year, $40 million contract in March. He is coming off a Super Bowl-winning season with the Seattle Seahawks, where he played a key role. The 27-year-old recorded 66 combined tackles consisting of 27 assisted and 39 solo efforts in 15 regular-season games. Williams, on the other hand, completed 330-of-568 passes for 3,942 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has his sights set on surpassing those numbers and leading the franchise to a deeper playoff run.
Bryant could return by Week 13 or 14, but it will depend on how his recovery progresses. The Bears will need the rest of the safety room to step up in his absence.

Chicago Bears: Caleb Williams shares how he has been supporting Coby Bryant
During his media availability, Williams opened up about how he supports Bryant. He admitted being too personal in supporting teammates with injuries is not his best suit. However, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner shared that he has reached out to him.
“I’m not the best with all of that because if anything ever happened to me, I don’t know how I’d feel,” Williams said. “I don’t really want people coming up trying to feel sorry for me, so I’ve gone up to him, dapped him up, and just kind of been stoic about it, asking him how he’s doing, but nothing too deep. We’ve texted back and forth a few times, just letting him know I’m going to be here, we’re going to get this thing going, and when you come back, we’ll be rolling just in time for you.”

Chicago signed Xavier Woods on Friday to add more depth at safety. The team also has Dillon Thieneman, drafted at No. 25 overall this year. He will likely take on a significant role to start his rookie season and the team will rely heavily on him amid Bryant’s setback. The defense, particularly the defensive backs, will play a crucial role in providing Williams and his unit with more chances to score.
