David Bailey Generating Early Buzz at Jets Training Camp
For those who enjoyed the FIFA soccer World Cup this summer, which we shared with Canada and Mexico, the real fun begins now for National Football League fans. The regular season is almost here, and it has been a long offseason. One of the highlights for the Jets was selecting David Bailey in the NFL Draft.
With the New York Jets now into the third week of their training camp, we shouldn’t be making sweeping conclusions in either direction. There are hints that can be taken and learned from based on what has happened so far. That, of course, includes those players on the roster who are already managing to stand out and impress early in training camp.
One of those standing out right now is that draft pick, David Bailey, and for NFL fans yet to experience Prediction Markets and what they offer, backing Bailey for a good year ahead could be an interesting way of using your kalshi referral code. The 22-year-old Orange County native was a 2026 1st round, 2nd overall pick in the recent draft, with impressive college sack production. Big things are expected from Bailey (who is the Jets highest selected defensive player in their history), and he has more than begun to show what his potential could be in training.
Just last week, the rookie pass rusher helped himself to two or three sacks (no quarterback contact in practice) and some nice tackles. It seems he has achieved his aim of better putting himself on people’s radars now. So much so, in fact, that there are now genuine rumblings among commentators and the media (including NFL.com’s Dan Parr) that he is one to watch as a contender for being in line for the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Honors.
A few weeks in, he is establishing himself as the edge rusher the Jets hoped he would be, with his explosive burst making him a real headache. This week in camp, he is standing out for dropping back into coverage and making plays against the run. The fear is he would be one-dimensional. He will have to prove it when the games count, but he is off to a good start.
“I’m just having fun with my brothers out there.”
Parr, senior editor of draft strategy, commented, ‘As the first defensive player selected in this year’s draft, Bailey’s DROY chances are very strong. Some might even say the strongest of anyone on this list.’
High praise and strong words indeed, but history would be on Bailey’s side. Five out of the last seven DROY winners lifted the award as edge rushers. 38 of the last 45 award winners were also top 10 picks – so it will certainly leave Gridiron fans considering whether or not it could be his year.
